Art handling

Moving objects without risks? During the Art Handling course, you’ll learn the essential choices when moving heritage, both internally and externally. Theory and practice are combined. With this knowledge, you’ll minimise risks and ensure safe, responsible collection management.

Why this course?

Moving heritage carries risks. In this course, you’ll learn what those risks are and, more importantly, how to avoid them. Zero risk doesn’t exist, but we strive for it. You’ll learn from our experience and from each other.

For whom?

This course is intended for anyone involved in preparing, executing, or supervising the transport of heritage. From museum staff to registrars, collection managers, and art transporters: Art Handling provides you with practical tools for safer handling.

The teacher

The course is taught by Meike van Gemeren. After studying marketing and communication, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Heritage at the Reinwardt Academy. She worked at Artis, among other places, where, as a member of the Education Team, she was responsible for the use of collection items in a variety of activities: from exhibitions and lectures to audio tours and scavenger hunts. Since 2023, Meike has been a lecturer at Helicon. With her broad knowledge of management and conservation, CHV (collection emergency planning) and art handling, and her enthusiastic teaching style, she knows how to connect theory and practice in an inspiring way.
